Digging Deeper with Daniel 8/6-8/13 Big Week in the NFL

Preseason Observations

NFL Preseason action fully kicked off this week. Here are a few of my quick observations.

Christian McCaffery: The Panthers rookie showed good vision and an ability to create something out of nothing in his brief preseason debut.

Leonard Fournette: The LSU product flashed on some nice runs, but didn’t run very efficiently and didn’t show good vision in his preseason debut. Despite as easy as he says it was for him, he still needs to do better in the future.

Dalvin Cook: Cook looked decent behind a sub-par Vikings O-Line. He didn’t really show anything overly good or bad.

Joe Mixon: The controversial Bengals rookie played very well in his preseason debut, flashing some serious potential.

Deshaun Watson: The 2016 National Champion had a good preseason showing, but also showed some flaws with some badly errant throws.

Mitch Trubisky: The UNC product had a very accurate and efficient NFL preseason debut, but had some flaws in his game.

DeShone Kizer: My number 1 QB from this last draft class flashed some serious potential in his preseason debut with some monster deep throws and on many plays good pocket awareness. Kizer was very impressive but did hold on to the ball too long on a few plays.

Ezekiel Elliot Suspended for 6 Games

The Cowboys star running back “Zeke” Elliot was suspended by the NFL for 6 games for a number of charges. This was a controversial decision as many people believe Zeke to be innocent. The NFL discipline system has been a disaster and highly inconsistent for years, so any decision shouldn’t come as a shock to anyone at this point.

Buffalo Bills Making Moves

The Bills under a new GM and Coach traded Sammy Watkins and Ronald Darby as well as some late round draft picks with Watkins going to the Rams and Darby going to the Eagles. They received E.J. Gaines, Jordan Mathews, the Rams 2018 second round pick, and the Eagles 2018 third round pick. This seems to indicate a beginning of a rebuild for the Bills, who have been caught in the middle of the league for years.
